Scone Thistle 2010 2 v 3 BSYFC 2010 DDYFA U15 League
Scone Thistle U15 Blacks were rivals from last season after a nail biting Perth & Kinross Youth Cup final saw them score the winner in the dying minutes of the game against Breadalbane to lift the trophy. It was all set for a return match in the drizzle at North Inch CC…and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
It felt like all the training and effort over the last few months was evident in a great display. Of particular note was a great defensive line, working well with Joel marshalling at the back, John and Finlay intercepting effectively and at times running the lines as wingbacks, Kris and Jayden working flat out to stifle the swift Scone forwards.
Breadalbane were dominant for much of the half and had plenty of chances. Ceiran on a number of occasions battling through a congested defence, John hitting the crossbar from 20 yards, Freddie just beaten to a great Finn cross, Rhys hitting a number of shots to challenge the keeper.
It was Scone who soaked up the pressure well and hit Breadalbane on the counter with direct, early balls that their forwards pounced on to take a lead into the break ⚽⚽.
HT 0-2
A determined Breadalbane came out for the second half and it was Finn’s foot that finally cracked the door open - a powerful free kick from the left proved too much for the Scone keeper, despite getting his gloves to it.
Breadalbane's midfield were on top with David and Rhys battling for every loose ball and winning numerous turnovers, Ru controlling the ball and finding the pass out wide or through the centre, Robert working flat out and running rings around an increasingly tired opposition.
A stubborn Scone defence held the visitors out for much of the half despite Freddie, Cieran, Robert & David all going close.
It was Finn again that drew the score level with a run down the left and a beautifully lobbed ball that arced over the keeper and in ⚽. Game on !
Despite consistent pressure we reached the final 5 minutes still drawn. Rhys, Robert and David had controlled the centre, Finn, Freddie and Ceiran had put the on relentless pressure at their end, just not getting that final finish.
Breadalbane were searching for a winner but Scone made a last ditch interception and looked to be on the break, but Thomas called a halt with a timely tackle. We worked the ball to the right and up stepped the Player of the Match, David, still working relentlessly on and off the ball, to fire the ball over and in for a last minute winner!! ⚽
FT 2-3
BSYFC 2009 1-4 Ferry Athletic 2009(DDYFA U16 League)
An impressive display from Ferry Athletic saw the away side run out 4-1 winners. The game was a lot closer than the result suggests, but unfortunately the U16s recent struggles in front of goal continued.
Overall it was a good, competetive game with both sides playing some great football. It was Ferry however that were clinical infront of goal, leaving us frustrated at what could have been.
HT 0-3
Ivan grabbed our only goal with a beautifully guided header into the far post from Liams corner. It felt like it would spark a come back as second goal looked inevitable. Breadalbane were in control for much of the second half and creating chances, moving the ball neatly. Their dominance led the Coaches to push another player further forward but in hindsight this only disrupted the lads rhythm. The visitors struck with a classic counter punch for their fourth and put the game to bed.
Despite the result there were some very good performances with the MOTM award going to Liam. Backing up a solid performance against DUSC last week, Liam was superb today both with and with out the ball. He covered a lot of ground and used the ball very effectively when in possession, well done.
BSYFC 2012 0 v 9 Alyth FC 2012( PKYFA U13 League)
We had a healthy squad of 18 players for our first game of the new year, a home fixture versus Alyth.
Alyth kept us penned in our half for most of the first half and their dominating territory resulted in a run of unanswered goals.
More settled and better organised, we created some chances and kept the score at 0-0 for the first 25mins of the second half. Everyone played well and it was good to see improvement as the game went along. Max was particularly focused and dynamic, achieving man of the match for his efforts. Well done Max!
Fred played his last game for the club today. Always giving his best, he has been a dependable player both in goals and outfield since he joined two seasons ago. Off the field, he has a great sense of humour and is polite and respectful. He is welcome back any time.
