11 ASIDE TEAMS - SUN 19th JAN
BSYFC 2010 0-5 St Andrews Colts 2010 (DDYFA U15 League)
First team back in action after the New Year were our U15s who had a real battle on their hands against a second placed St Andrews side who are yet to drop league points.
The chat before the game was about consistency, playing out from the back, keeping our shape and working the channels on the pitch.
The team has performed well for a half in matches without managing this across a full game but today the whole team worked relentlessly in a tight game for the full 80 minutes.
There are a few positional issues that need worked on, and the desire to compete for every aerial or 50:50 challenge ball also requires improvement. Today for long spells, there was little to choose between the sides but conceding a number of soft goals would be Breadalbane's undoing.
Credit must go to Joel who put in a towering performance dealing with a number of 1v1s, supported by a back line that worked brilliantly to fight for every ball, including defending well at a number of corners.
A number of chances fell to the home side and Ceiran has to get a mention, along with Rhys, Finn, David and Isaac, for their workrate and drive throughout the match. A great through ball just got away from Ceiran, an indirect free kick from Rhys was fired over the bar, a ball was almost brought under control by Freddie with a tight angle on goal, a brilliant last minute tackle on Ceiran after an outstanding through ball from Rhys could well have made the scoreline much closer.
FT 0-5
The lads voted on their Player of the Match this week which went to Jaiden for his solid performance both in midfield and defence, including some brilliant last ditch sliding tackles, blocks, and pinpoint passing.
This team are clearly improving and becoming more resilient. It has been a real challenge stepping into the Dundee league from the PKYFA U14 league. They will soon start reaping the rewards in terms of scoreline from the hard work they are putting in at training each week.
BSYFC 2009 2-3 Fair City 2009 (DDYFA U16 League)
Next in action were the U16s after a very long Christmas break, as they hosted an in-form Fair City side at Home Street.
The visitors started the game the stronger and took the lead in the 7th minute as their striker sprung the offside trap and finished well into the far corner.
On the half hour mark they doubled their lead, Breadalbane then created a couple of their own chances towards the end of the half with Ivan going closest with his header from a Paddy freekick.
Fair City went into the break with a deserved two goal advantage leaving the hosts with an uphill task. Being more aggressive and getting the ball wide quicker was the message at half time from the Coaches.
HT 0-2
The lads started the second half brilliantly, creating 3 good scoring opportunities in the opening 10 minutes without being able to convert. Against the run of play, Fair City added their third. A goalmouth scramble that inched over the line had the game all but won.
Breadalbane had other ideas however. Direct from the kick off, the ball was touched back to Paddy who was alert to the keeper being a little too far off his line and fired in a screamer from his own half to get one back. 3-1 and finally something for the Home fans to cheer.
Breadalbane were now pushing for a second and the chances were coming but agonisingly they weren't able to take them. With 2 minutes left to play Jayden grabbed the second from a corner.
Breadalbane continued to push for the equaliser but came up just short and another loss by one goal.
FT 2-3
A lot of positives to take from the match - Caleb back to his his dangerous best, Struan and Thomas had very good games after both training brilliantly during the week. James had a great game in goal, with a notable higher starting position in the second half allowing him to deal expertly with through balls.
Paddy picked up the MOTM award - solid at centre half today. He read the game very well and organised brilliantly from the back. His use of the ball was good and he scored a cracker to round off what was a very strong performance.
Not the result the boys wanted but with a small squad they showed again that they are still competing in the Dundee 1st Division which is an excellent standard.
