U16s fightback at a windy Montrose falls short

23/12/2024

Following an early morning inspection at Home St, our U15s match was reluctantly called off on Sunday after some overnight frost. In all likelihood the pitch would've been playable by kick off at midday but with our opponents travelling from Arbroath, we couldn't make that assumption.

Hugely frustrating that we do not have access to the 3G as back-up at short notice for this type of situation due to the Breadalbane Community Campus remaining closed on Sundays.

11 aside teams - SUN 15th DEC

Dundee Utd SC 2010 7-1 Breadalbane 2010 (DDYFA U15 League)

Wndy conditions at Craigie High School where Breadalbane quickly found themselves two goals behind. To their credit, the boys stuck together and played their way back into the match and reduced the deficit when Ru finished a dangerous delivery from a corner. Finn then saw his freekick from distance crash of the crossbar. The first half ebbed and flowed as both teams created chances but remained 2-1.

Second half would prove an entirely different affair as the team switched off and got caught out repeatedly. Although playing into a strong wind, they were out played  as fatigue set in and Dundee Utd eased to a comfortable win.

Robert picked up Player of the Match for another accomplished midfield display. Always looking to take the match to the opposition with great close control.

Lots of positives from the first half performance although the second half collapse underlined that the team's fitness can certainly be improved upon.

Montrose Youth 2009 2-1 BSYFC 2009 (DDYFA U16 League)

The furthest away league fixture of the season, as the U16s visited Montrose. Kenny Park was in great condition considering the time of year, but with a strong wind it was sure to be a game of two halves.

Playing into the wind in the first, the visitors half struggled to get going. Montrose were winning the 50/50s and were good value for their 2-0 half time lead.

Frustrating to conceed the goals in the manner they did as both were preventable. The first a needless freekick given away on the edge of the box, the second another penalty both which was converted.

James produced an unbelievable double save towards the end of the first half to keep Breadalbane  in the game.

Breadalbane went out with a point to prove in the second half and with the wind, they took the game to Montrose.

Struan was moved forward into the strikers role. He battled for everything and caused the home side loads of issues. He held the ball up well, brought others in to play and grabbed a well deserved goal for his efforts.

Enough chances were being created in the second half to merit an equaliser, but unfortunately it wasnt to be. Yet another loss by the odd goal, but there were still positives to take from the performance.

A further penalty was conceded in the second half which felt harsh as Ivan certainly played the ball first. This time James guessed right as he produced another great save.

Sharing the MOTM award with Struan is Euan. Another full game under his belt at right back, Euan never put a foot wrong. Always composed on the ball and today he battled for everything and certainly got the better of the home side's winger. Well done to both Struan and Euan.
