U13s & U15s Raise Their Game

02/11/2024

BSYFC 2012 0 v 7 Jeanfield 2012 (U13 PKYFA League

The first game for a month saw the 2012s put in an excellent team performance against an unbeaten Jeanfield side who sit top of the league. Despite the home side playing well in the first half, after 15 minutes Jeanfield started to dominate and scored some good goals. HT 0-5

The second half performance was one of the best since the team started 11s. They made it difficult for the opposition and created some great chances.

Dougie was Player of the Match. He was vocal, covered the pitch and played with intensity the whole game. Well done Players & Coaches, no more than you deserve for the effort and application shown at training recently.

Ferry Athletic 2010 4-3 BSYFC 2010 (U15 DDYFA League)

In September, the clash against Ferry Athletic Blues saw a 7-0 defeat in the Scottish Cup and, despite continuing encouraging signs of improvement it was daunting just a few weeks later to be back at Dawson Park facing the same team, the same tight pitch and a bracing wind.

It was evident however from the first five minutes that our U15s weren’t to be easily swept aside and it was brilliant to see the resilience with which the whole team came together as a unit to close down threats and play quick moving football. Ferry are a strong, physical team who work the ball from the back well and who are quick to punish any errors with great switching play and a lot of pace up front. Last match this was too much for us, not today.

The first chance fell to Ferry though on 11 minutes when a deflected clearance fell to their  striker, but Joel was quick to close down and pressure before a brilliant save to send it wide. Outstanding.

Breadalbane then began to assert more control on the match. The central midfield (Kris, David and Rhys, and later John) put in a shift – tracking back well during a number of threatening Ferry corners and attacks. In possession they were quick to shift the ball wide to Finn and Ceiran or forward to Freddie, a weaving presence up front.

On the quarter hour Finn was released wide, and in his usual style found a few feet of space to whip in a cross from the right, looping over defence and goalkeeper to find Freddie to volley home. 0-1.

The biggest change from last match to this, though, was how well our defence worked as a unit throughout the match. Finlay, Jaiden, Alex, Gojus and Cameron were outstanding in positioning, in stifling numerous well-worked attacks, and in ‘concertinaing’ as a group when threatened on the wings – practiced in training and brought to life throughout the game in brilliant style.

The rest of the half play ran back and forth with Breadalbane arguably having more chances and the frustration for the home side began to show with slightly more wayward play. It was unfortunate, therefore, that a goal kick late in the half crashed off Cameron’s head and fell back to a Ferry forward to rush in and smash into the corner. 1-1.

Finn was to end the half hitting the crossbar from a wickedly curling corner, just glancing high into the air. A good team talk later and things couldn’t have been tighter. The next goal felt important and Breadalbane continued to pile on the pressure after the break. Rhys, John and David in midfield continued to work tirelessly on and off the ball, creating havoc in the centre and not allowing any flowing play from the home side. It was David, our man of the match last time these two sides met, who was insutrmental in the next goal, harrying away from midfield into defence and forcing a powered back pass from the left mistimed by the keeper and in. 1-2.

The next quarter of an hour was a battle of wills. A yellow card for the home team and a number of free kicks to both sides, as Ferry sought to get back in the match. Breadalbane were outstanding in our defensive play, only once letting those shifting forwards through for Joel with another world class save one on one again. The visitors remained sharp on the counter, still finding joy out on the wings through Ceiran and Finn, linking up well with Freddie.

Two minutes of concetration lapses that saw Ferry get back in the match with two goals in quick succession that saw them edge ahead. A final goal for them with ten minutes to go looked like it was sealed. 4-2. Breadalbane didn’t let up though and 3 minutes later a nicely weighted ball in from Rhys, headed on by David found Finn in space and a cracking strike to bring us back in with a chance. 4-3. We continued to press and battle for every ball and it was a late cross by Finn, with Thomas racing in being our closest chance – the ball just muscled out of reach by the keeper. It was difficult to hear the final whistle to end a match that could have gone either way. A defeat but everyone can be proud of the performance and encouraged with the significant step forward taken in the team's development.

Broughty Utd Pumas 2009 4 v 0 BSYFC 2009 (U16 DDYFA League)

A tough task for the U16s with an away trip to a very good and strengthened looking Broughty Pumas side.

After matching them with a pulsating 5-5 draw in the reverse fixture a few weeks ago, Breadalbane fell a little short today.

The Dundee 1st Division is a competitive league, packed full of quality sides including Breadalbane. In these games nothing less than 100% will do but not every player offered that today.

James, Nathan, Paddy and Ivan gave everything they could today and deserve a big shout out. Paddy's understandable frustrations at the way the match was going would spill over and a late, needless challenge earned him a red which will see him miss the next match.

Some superb saves from James kept the lads in it for a good while, Nathan proved again what an important player he can be for us with another great display.. but it was Ivan that takes todays MOTM award.

Ivan gives everything every game but technically he is improving all the time. He has always been a solid centre half but now his composure on the ball is providing great options..Well done lad.. superb today.

Broughty were the better team and deserved the win but Breadalbane competed well for the most part. They now have the small matter of a Scottish Cup 3rd round tie against Balgonie Scotia last year's champions from Fife. Another tough game against a top side.

Jamie and the groundstaff will work hard to get Home Street ready for Sundays game where hopefully a large home crowd can help the lads progress to the 4th round.
