Girls' Defences put to the Test

BSYFC U10 BLUES v BLAIRGOWRIE U10

A new look Breadalbane Blues entertained an experienced Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Club at Home St. The up and coming Evie took her place in goal and made a string of brilliant saves with the same brave goalkeeping we've seen in recent weeks. It was a first half where Blair swamped the midfield with good pressure limiting the Breadalbane Girls time on the ball. The Blue's defence certainly had a job on their hands but kept things respectable by half time. Layla then took over between the sticks in the second half, equalling Evie's performance from the first half with some brave dives at the feet of the opposition. Freya and Zosia had their work cut out in midfield making challenge after challenge and getting the ball wide to wingers Leona and Eilish and, despite the same constant pressure on the ball from Blair, the Blues managed to create some good chances with corner after corner being awarded. Upfront Lily ran all day and into some great positions, but a tight 2v1 at the back from Blair saw them limit the opportunities.

With no subs for the Blues, energy levels did wane a little towards the end, but a stoic performance they can be proud of, never letting their heads go down and fighting to the last, it's another important lesson on the learning curve for these girls.

BSYFC U10 WHITES v BLUE BRAZIL U10

On the adjacent pitch, Breadalbane Whites, took on Blue Brazil Football Club - Girls Section  a closely contested encounter with some great football from both teams. Maria captained her side from midfield while Eliza made some multiple quality stops in goal throughout the first half. Daphne and Emilia shored up defence in front of Eliza which meant Blue Brazil struggled to penetrate.  Aurora, Amy, Kamila fed Olive up front who scored just before half time. Kudos to Maria who volunteered in goal for the second half and she handed the Captain’s armband to Eliza.  Everyone played in just about every position after the break. Some great runs from Layla and Olive and more penetrating play.  Player of the Match went to Olive for her sterling efforts down the wing.

DUNDEE EAST U14 7 v 1 BSYFC U14

The U14s visited Dundee East and gave a good account of themselves on a sloping pitch. Playing uphill in the first half into a headwind meant they were camped in their own half for long periods. A physically bigger Dundee side had the benefit of a large squad and were the better side in the first period. Breadalbane emerged in the second half with some renewed impetus. With the benefit of the conditions, Bella, playing in front of the defence, was able to release Amelia and Pippa regularly who were causing the Dundee defence plenty problems. Breadalbane's pressure forced an own goal that Izzy would later claim an assist for. Pippa, who had another excellent game, was unlucky not to win a penalty after being fouled just outside the box, after a great run.

The Girls can be proud for giving it a real go second half. Brooke was solid in defence, Mel the Midfield enforcer was full of energy but Player of the Week was Bella for great composure on the ball and some excellent, defence splitting passes.
