Heartbreak on penalties for U16s as U10 Girls take over Home St

06/09/2024

Thursday evening under the floodlights and the U16s were involved in a close fought DDYFA League Cup tie against a strong, physical Fair City Junior FC 2009 side. The match would end in a 2-2 draw after Breadalbane had led twice only for  the visitors to win a nail biting penalty shoot 9-8.

The Boys played some decent football, certainly created enough chances to win it but also rode their luck and conceeded a couple of soft goals. Manager Callaghan reflected, " never nice to go out on penalties but a big positive is the way we conducted ourselves. New signing Lomond looks like a great addition to the squad."

Great to see four Girls U10 teams in action on Saturday at Home St, Aberfeldy which made for a great atmosphere. Breadalbane Blues v Blue Brazil Football Club - Girls Section & Breadalbane Whites v Kennoway Star Hearts Girls Team. Goals were flying in all over the place with Eliza and Freya scoring some crackers. Coach Kris was delighted with the Blues performance against Blue Brazil " What a Game ! Brilliant first performances from our new signings Emelia, Evie and Lily. Evie's diving save to turn the ball round the post was my moment of the match!" Evie and Eilish were the Players of the Week. Well done everyone!!

PKYFA Fun4s on Sunday at Bertha Park it was an outstanding performance from Coach Simmy's team especially when defending, limiting the opposition to very few chances. Coach Annette felt her squad made good use of space with some really accurate passing with the players working super hard and scoring some cracking goals. Big thanks to Josip for helping out across both teams.

Great to see two teams also entered for the Super 5s. Coaches Shane and Andy were coaching the away team who produced great performances in all 3 games. Good possession and defensive work allowed them to control a lot of the games. Their Player of the Week went to Max for being the loudest voice on the pitch making himself always available and getting in some strong tackles as well. The home Super 5s team were with Squeak and they showed good passing & defended well against strong opposition, finishing the festival really strongly. The Player of the Week award going to Evie for her outstanding saves.

Back at Home St and first up were the  2013's hosting Scone Thistle 2013 in an entertaining match. Overall a great performance with a solid showing from both defences although Oliver in goals was kept busy producing a string of vital saves. Coach Matthijs asked the team to pass and move although, in the first half they struggled to link-up between midfield and attack, although it did improve after some changes. A well organised Scone defence kept the home sides shots to a minimum. It was a great team effort especially without subs and both Nestor and Mathew were excellent but there was a joint Player of the Week performance - Ethan for his effort at training and the match. Also Oliver in goals who saved the day on more than one occasion. Marco still struggling from last week's injury and we wish him a speedy, full recovery.

The 2015s had a large squad as they also faced Scone Thistle 2015 Blacks. The Campus closure meant the match had to be switched to the training area but the challenge of a bumpy pitch seemed to suit the team well and there was plenty of superb goals and improved passing. Player of the week awarded to Jayden for a good performance at both training and the match with good work rate & some great runs.

A depleted 2014 squad travelled to Perth Seven Acres to face Letham Community Sports Club - Letham FC.  It took conceding a couple of goals to spur the team into action as Jakob and Max were then denied only by some good goalkeeping. Max played a neat through ball to Jakob for a lovely finish just before half time and it was a much sharper Breadalbane team that came out second half. They created an abundance of chances before Lachlan picked up the ball from defence, went past a couple players, and drove a fierce shot into the bottom corner from just over the half way line. Player of the Week goes to Lachlan who scored a screamer but more importantly covered every inch of the Letham park. The whole team today showed real spirit and determination especially with some players under the weather.

Also at Home St were the 2012s (U13s) who had players missing from key positions which meant others were asked to play in new positions, and it was great to see them do this without complaint. Thank you to Oliver for stepping up and helping out between the sticks again. Breadalbane enjoyed good possession in spells, creating plenty chances against Scone Thistle without being able to convert them. Holly had an excellent game in centre midfield and was awarded Player of the Week. Well done!

The U15s were handed a challenging League Cup tie away to a Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Club yet to drop points in the league. Boys made a positive start at Davie Park, enjoying success down both wings. Blairgowrie however were just a bit sharper and punished any lapses and raced to a 4 goal lead inside 20mins. The lads continued to battle away and a well judged cross from Freddie saw Cieran, always a threat, slotting in from close range to finish the half. The second half saw a greater intensity from Breadalbane despite Blairgowrie running out comfortable 6-1winners. Coach Scott commented "a definite lack of match sharpness led to errors so the Cup tie was gone before we could really get going. Nonetheless, the boys have shown over the last two performances they are more than capable of holding their own in a much more challenging environment. They will only improve as the season progresses if they continue to work hard and back each other."

Player of the Match ? was split between two who certainly were on razor sharp form - Isaac dominating play as a holding midfielder winning almost all aerial duels and regularly helping out the back line. The second POM goes to Cieran who was relentless in the first half rampaging down the left, then equally effective in the second half as a tireless wingback - brilliant!
