U14 Girls back in business and U15s make encouraging debut in Dundee League

30/08/2024

Second week back for our Youth teams and on Saturday the unstoppable force that are the U10 Girls were in Fife to play Glenrothes Strollers CC Girls. A few Girls playing in different positions and every single one of them were brilliant again today. Zosia was absolutely blinding at right centre back in the 1st half and sweeper keeper in the 2nd doing exactly what was needed each time earning her the Player of the Week. Players and Coaches keep up the good work!

Saturday saw not one but two Girls U14 teams travel North to take part in a mini 9 aside tournament. The Breadalbane coaches had a healthy squad of 11 to choose from which is encouraging given the injured senior players yet to return. Letham proved sharper in the opening match and their direct play upfront proved a constant threat. While Letham played Scone in the second match, players and Coaches chatted through their opening match and made some tactical changes.

A more determined team kicked off against Scone and, despite passing the ball well with fantastic movement, they somehow reached halftime two goals down. After the break they roared back into the game with two well taken goals from Holly⚽⚽. Chances were coming thick and fast but the ball just wouldn’t go in while a defensive lapse allowed Scone another.

Amelia continues to impress in only her second match but joint Players of the Week were Bella and Holly. Bella was outstanding at the back putting her body on the line while at the other end Holly was always taking the game to opposition with her running, determination and footwork. Huge thanks to Letham Community Sports Club and Scone Thistle Girls Football Club for travelling up and creating such a great atmosphere.

Coach Annette was busy looking after the Fun4s this week where there was more use of space, strong tackles and lots of shots on goal.

Also at Bertha Park on Sunday were the Super 5s who had some outstanding play to produce perhaps their most positive display at yet!  Great possession and the passing between players is really improving helping them grow in confidence, and they were rewarded with lots of goals for their play ⚽⚽⚽. Our player of the week was Ivan for his outstanding team work.

The 2015s had an exciting match away to Blairgowrie Whites. The boys made a strong start, keeping their shape well and stringing together some lovely, confident passes.  Blairgowrie came back strongly in what was a well matched game. Player of the week to Cormac for superb defence and strong outfield work.

At Pitlochry, our 2014s hosted Blairgowrie Blues where Coaches Simmy & Kempy were looking for the team to reproduce the passing and movement they had worked on in training.

Blairgowrie started the brighter side and raced into a lead before Breadalbane took control with goals from the hard working Lachlan, Ethan and Jakob. In the second half Jamie in goals made some great saves, backed up by the tough tackling and hard working  Jakob marshalling the defence. Great goal line clearances from Jack and Luke kept the Blairgowrie attack at bay. On the counter attack, the pace of Max, Lewis, Jakob and Ethan always looked a threat. A really good performance for the first game back against strong opponents. The Coaches were delighted with the entire team's work rate. Player of the Week went to the hard working Ethan who scored four great goals today and made tireless runs.

At Home St, Coach Andy couldn't have been happier with how well the 2013s played against Luncarty Utd. The team are really starting to get the hang of the extra space on the 9-a-side pitch. Some excellent passing out from the back and great runs in behind the Luncarty defence. Good overall positioning throughout the team as well. Keeper Olly and his defence were great today, really solid and taking the time to get the ball under control before playing a pass. Midfield worked hard with their heads up always looking to find the pass in behind. Good movement up front meant lots of chances at goal. Well done everyone! Sore one for Marco early in the first half with a stud on the knee and we wish him well.

Through on the East Coast, the 2010s made a blistering start to their debut in the Dundee & District YFA U15 League against a big powerful Arbroath Harp side.

Unphased the visitors raced to a 2-0 lead inside the first twenty minutes with Jaiden and Rhys dominating the middle of the park. Robert, Finn, David and Freddie were all making threatening runs on behind. Rhys cracked a low shot into the corner for the opener then Finn added a second after  a great through ball by Freddie. Arbroath clawed themselves back into the match in some style with three goals without reply by halftime thanks to a fast paced attacking front line.

Second half proved a hard shift with only one sub and tired legs eventually began to show as Arbroath ran out 5-2 winners with a couple of late goals. Excellent debuts from Jaiden and Robert but Player of the Match goes to Joel, for marshalling his defence, a dominant performance and some great saves.

The U15s can take huge encouragement from this performance against a powerful side. An excellent platform to build on as they face Blairgowrie (A) in the League Cup.

A frustrating day for the U16s which ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Ferry Athletic 2009.

After last weeks good performance, they went in to this one full of confidence but struggled to get going. The narrow pitch certainly didn't suit their game and Ferry looked slightly sharper. The Dundee side managed to find the all important goal with a screamer from 25 yards after a catalogue of lapses.

Breadalbane created a good few chances especially in the 2nd half with the wind at their backs but couldn't find a way past a very good Ferry keeper. Thomas and Ivan went close in the closing stages but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

Ivan, Thomas, Jayden and Nathan all did well but just edging the MOTM award was John. He looked solid at the back the whole game and used the ball well when going forward. Well done John L.

Next up is Fair City at Home on Thursday night in the League Cup second round where the squad having been boosted by the signing of new player Lomond.

Finally a big thank you to everyone who helped at last week's Thrift Shop after a last minute opportunity became available due to a cancellation. Shona, Amy, Jan, Kathie and the rest of the team fired into action and raised almost £1000. Definitely a Team of the Week performance.
