After the Summer break, it was great to see nearly all our teams return to football at the weekend.
On Saturday, the U10 Girls travelled to deepest, darkest Fife to play Kennoway Star Hearts Girls Team where they turned in another stellar performance. A great start back and congrats to Maria for working her socks off, earning her Player of the Match.
No less than 17 players attended the first team training session back and we have now entered two teams at the U10 age group in the East Region league.
Sadly, our U14s Girls are not blessed with the same numbers and were unable to fulfil their fixture v Blue Brazil Girl’s U14’s from Cowdenbeath on Saturday.
Defender Alba and Striker Emma are both sidelined for a number of weeks with injuries. Coaches Poodle and Jonathan have reluctantly therefore taken the decision to step the team back to 9aside while the squad returns to full strength. The team received kind messages of support from league opponents wishing them a swift return to the East Region 11aside league which is appreciated.
The U14 girls were still busy at the weekend helping out at the triathlon. Despite being attacked by ferocious midges, Jade, Poodle and the Girls had their water/energy station running like clockwork with help from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
On Sunday, our Fun4s and Super 5s were down in Perth at Bertha Park for the PKYFA small sided festivals.
The Fun4s welcomed new player Ruben to the team and the team played well. Lots of good football from the Super 5s putting into practice what they had learned from before the break which is very promising for going forward.
Although everyone played well, Joachim was Player of the Day for the Super 5s with an unbelievable game in goal. He stopped multiple shots, one with his face yet carried on like nothing happened. A big thank you to Leona who played incredible (and mum) for helping the team out straight after she had played for the Fun4s !!
On Sunday at the Breadalbane Community Campus it was also a great start back from the 2015s against Luncarty. Coaches Tyler, Ally & Jane were delighted with the well worked goals, accurate passing and how well the team kept their shape !! Player of the Week went to Ruaridh
Meanwhile At Home St, the 2013s were getting used to the new 9 aside format on a bigger pitch. Opponents Letham Community Sports Club - Letham FC started well but, as the match progressed, Breadalbane began to find their feet, as communication and passing improved. Letham proved the better team but lots of positives from the home side. Great dribbles from Marco and Player of the Week Cuba. Wilf also outran the opposition many times and delivered a great corner for a cracking goal from Matthew.
The 2012s have now moved up to playing 11 aside and, fair to say, it was a fiery baptism to the new U13 league on the full size pitch.
Despite conceding goals, it was great to see everyone stick together and keep working. Shout out to Milo and Olly for their stint in goals while Ryan picked up Player of the Match for his organising in defence.
The 2012s were then handed a tricky midweek fixture away to Pitfour 2012 on Wednesday but they seized the opportunity to bounce back from Sunday's defeat in an entertaining game of football at St Madoes.
Better communication and a higher intensity made for a much improved performance. Heads were up looking for the pass and an excellent work rate off the ball meant players were available in space to receive the ball. Team got their rewards with five well-worked goals as the match finished in a high scoring draw. Logan and Finn volunteered their services in goal and were excellent but it was Carl who earned Player of the Match for an outstanding midfield display.
Sunday's final match at Home St saw the U16s host a very good St Andrews Colts 2009s side and a large crowd was treated to a brilliant encounter.
Breadalbane created some fantastic opportunities but trailed 0-1 after a fairly even first half. The half time message was for more of the same. A quick fire double from Caleb within 5 minutes of the restart saw them take the lead. The first a clever glancing header after a great ball in to the box from Liam. Two minutes later and he was alert to follow in the rebound from Jayden's shot after good work from Paddy.
Despite creating chances, they couldnt find that elusive 3rd goal. It would be St Andrews who would finished the game stronger and with 8 minutes left the scores were level 2-2. A briliant save in the last few minutes denied Ben the winner. A cracking match and both teams probably happy with a point.
Jayden and James shared the MOTM award. Jayden's use of the ball was superb and he won everything he went for while James pulled off two world class saves in the first half. Ivan and Struan are forming an important centre half partnership and bright performances on both wings from Caleb and Ben.
Our U15s were sadly denied the opportunity of making their debut in the Dundee League thanks to the farce that is COMET, the new SFA admin system. 40 Youth teams across Dundee & District were prevented from playing last weekend.
A bizarre decision was made by DDYFA to pull their game at 4pm on Friday only for the Scottish Youth FA - SYFA to update 24mins later that everything was in order. The fact the 2010 team, players and officials had been fully registered and approved by SYFA and DDYFA back in May (to avoid any potential issues from the roll out of the new COMET) makes the situation even more farcical.
