Weekly Wrap

Apologies for a belated round-up of the weekend before last...

It was double the fun for U10 Girls at Home St on Saturday with Jeanfield Swifts Girls FC after Jeanfield Jax were left without a fixture before Breadalbane invited them up to join Jeanfield Jolts. Two evenly contested matches and a brilliant display of football from all four teams in the sunshine in front of a large crowd.

Their older U14 counterparts returned to league duty against unknown opponents Kennoway Star Hearts Youth Football Club with the home side buoyed by the return of keeper Isabella from injury.

A well contested first half saw the visitors lead 2-0 despite opportunities at both ends.

Kennoway would extend their lead before Erika showed great composure to turn the defender before rolling the ball into the goal with a neat finish and 3-1. The team were lifted as they pressed for another but their excellent work rate gave way to tiredness in hot conditions and Kennoway would run out 6-1 winners.

A good team performance meant Player of the Week was a hard choice. The coaches felt that Bella just pipped it with a true captain's performance urging her team on and putting herself on the line.

The 2012s were at St Madoes facing Pitfour 2012 and can take lots of  positives from how they played. Better communication and some well-worked passing moves, as well as showing a bit more patience on the ball. Two great goals, Jamie getting on the end of a cross for the first and Logan heading in a long ball. An encouraging team performance by all, and a stand-out Player of the Match display by Jamie. Well done!

The 2013s welcomed Bridge of Earn FC 2013’s to Home St for an evenly contested encounter where both goalies excelled. Breadalbane's 'Pass and move' display was a joy to watch. Matthew as leader was solid in defence. Nestor scored a cracker after a mazy dribble out of defence and long range shot. Player of the Week for keeping Breadalbane in the match with some great saves was Oliver.

Alongside at Home St, the 2015s hosting Scone Thistle 2015s. Play improved in the second half as the players got stuck in. Jamie had another super stint in goals, showed a positive attitude and listened even if it was not where he wanted to be.

Meanwhile in Perth we were able to send another two teams to the Fun4s Festival which shows that the start of the pathway at Breadalbane is flourishing. Although the was nowhere to be seen, it didn't stop the team from playing some bright football. On the slick 3G surface they moved the ball neatly. Coach Simmy rotated the team well with Bailey scoring some crackers, Charlie is growing in confidence each week and looks composed on the ball, Cooper was everywhere, Josip weaved his magic while Iustin linked up well with his team mates. Gaffer Sean looked after the other team who also performed well. Harry knew where the goal was, Leona combined some quality football with some uncompromising challenges. JJ and Jack used the ball well while Katy, who was in wars, did brilliantly and showed some great touches.

Both Breadalbane teams found time for an unofficial friendly after the festival fixtures had finished. It was a typical, no holds barred derby match with tackles flying in but lots of fun.

The Super 5s Report also had two teams and

welcomed new player Joachim. They had three tough games against good opposition. Mylo, Cameron, Callum & Cat all gave a great account of themselves with great link up play. It was a similar tough matches for the other team with Calum, Mathew, Max, Evie all doing well. Both teams are making good progress in passing and making use of space to help support each other.

Players of the week were Cameron - for his attitude and controlling & passing of the ball and Evie for her workrate, tackling and great ball control.

The U15s travelled to Whitton Park looking for their fourth consecutive league win against a strong Broughty Pumas 2009 side but it turned out to be a frustrating day. After taking an early lead and controlling the majority of the play in the opening half hour, boys ultimately paid the heavy price for not taking their chances.

The performance was a long way from heavy home defeat when these sides met previously , and shows just how far the lads have come this season. Great to also see our players are now attracting the attention of Professional clubs with the game being watched.

Both goals today came from Ben, to continue his fine goal scoring form continue. The second, an unstoppable freekick from all of 30 yards in to the top corner!

Emil and Liam in the middle moved the ball well and tried to get our passing game going. John had another great game at left back up against a very strong opponent, but it was James who takes the MOTM award for a great display in goal. He made some good saves when called upon and was very unfortunate to conceed straight after tipping a fine effort on to the bar brilliantly.

Earlier on Sunday morning, the U14s had the small matter of trying to retain the PKYFA League Cup at Tulloch Park, Perth against Scone Thistle 2010s

Things were going very much according to plan at 3-1 as Breadalbane took the match to Scone and pressurised their opponents. They were hit with a double body blow of quick fire double that saw the teams go in level at half time 3-3.

Despite retaining the lead through a penalty,  Scone would claw themselves back into the match before finding a winner with only minutes remaining. Heartache for boys but congratulations to Scone on their Cup win.

Both these teams have not had straightforward  progressions through the Youth pathway and it is credit to the hard work of everyone involved at the Clubs, parents and the support of PKYFA  that both teams are flourishing and about to start exciting new chapters next season in the Dundee & District YFA.
