Weekly Wrap

13/05/2024

Friday evening and Riverside Stadium was the venue for the Perth & Kinross Schools S3 Cup Final. Breadalbane Academy were worthy winners with a convincing performance and 7-2 win over Perth High School.

Saturday morning and Fun4s were in action at the fantastic Annual Crieff JFC Football Festival. Both Breadalbane teams taking part were amazing, players had lots of fun and great to see Maxwell and Lachlan making their debuts.

The 2014s were also at the festival on Saturday morning playing 7 aside. They had a brilliant time getting to play new teams outwith the region. The team scored some great goals ⚽⚽ and Coaches Simmy and Kempy were delighted with the boys workrate over the matches.

The afternoon session at Crieff saw the 2015s take to 3G pitches. A good team performance, producing some great passing moves which they finished well.  This group certainly keep Coaches Tyler, Ally and Jane on their toes.

While the Crieff Festival was in full swing, the U14 Girls produced arguably their best first half performance to date as they led Carnoustie Panmure Girls 2-0 at the break. A tense, physical league encounter at Home St where Breadalbane created a host of chances with the pace and trickery of Lexie on the wing causing the visitors all sorts of problems. Holly bossed the midfield and fired in both the goals. Early in the second half Panmure pulled a goal back but the Breadalbane Bravehearts would see the game out thanks to an assured Isabella in goals and an outstanding defensive display from Piper to earn her Player of the Match.

The U10 Girls were on the road yet again visiting Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Club where the teams put on a high scoring thriller. This team just love scoring goals! Hannah won Player of the Week for her amazing display. The Club would also like to take this opportunity to deny any suggestions of illegal betting activity surrounding this fixture involving a packet of biscuits.

Our 2013s and Super 5s were back there again on the Sunday for another fun filled Day 2 of the Annual Crieff JFC Football Festival. A superb turn out of 9 excited kids for the Super5s. All the matches were close affairs with some great play. Coaches Squeak, Julie and Shane could not have been prouder of the team who were awarded the Fair Play Award. Outstanding work!

The 2013s were also there taking part in the festival for the last time as they will move up to 9-aside after the summer. They have attended the Festival since Fun4's and made some great memories over the years.

With a depleted squad, Coach Matthijs had to call in some big name players on hastily arranged loan deals. Max and Stewart from our younger teams were quick to help and proved to be great additions. A great performance overall with strong teamwork a theme with fantastic goal keeping from Oliver and Marco. Overall another great fun day with massive support from all the parents as well. Thanks to Brooklyn to help out the team for the last two matches.

Well done to all the volunteers at Crieff Juniors FootballClub for hosting such a well organised festival.

The 2012s had a tough assignment away to a very useful Jeanfield side who are technically strong and move the ball well. Despite enjoying their fair share of possession in the first half, Breadalbane were vulnerable to  Jeanfield's counter-attacks who converted their chances well. The team kept their heads held high thoughout and gave 100% to the end. Carl had a standout performance and was awarded player of the week. Well done!

With no U14s match, the final game of the weekend was the U15s playing in their first Dundee & District Cup Final. The last league meeting with their opponents DUSC 2009s ended in a 1-1 draw and a large travelling support made the trip through to Dundee North End's ground full of cautious optimism.

Breadalbane started poorly as they struggled to find any rhythm with lots of cup final nerves on show which was understandable. They were behind within 8mins after conceding an early penalty. Worse was to follow as DUSC doubled their lead from a corner only a few minutes later. The final was effectively ended as a contest midway through the first half as another two identical goals ⚽⚽ were conceded from corners - Breadalbane unable to clear their lines before gifting unmarked players tap-ins at the post.

A hugely frustrating first half for players, coaches and supporters given how well the team had played in their 3 matches to  reach the final. The manner of the goals conceded was especially disappointing given the preparation done on set plays.

Nonetheless, a huge credit to the lads for keeping going and competing for the remainder of the match which would end 1-5. Great to see Caleb return from injury with a well taken goal ⚽ also. Encouraging performances from Thomas at full back and Emil in the middle.

The players and Coaches will learn plenty from this and come back stronger. Priority is now performing well in the remaining back log of  league fixtures as they look to bounce back on Sunday at home to Montrose Youth.
